I have written about my love affair with The Best for Babes Foundationhere, here, here and here. Bettina and Danielle work tirelessly to help moms like you "beat the booby traps" - the cultural and institutional barriers that prevent moms from achieving their personal breastfeeding goals. Today, however, I am asking YOU to help THEM.
They are currently "sitting pretty" to receive a donation of $20,000 from the Chase Community Giving Program to support their cause, but NEED YOUR VOTE to maintain their position in the top 200 until the contest closes at midnight EDT on Monday, July 12, 2010! This will take no more than two minutes of your time and will benefit moms and babies everywhere today and in the future.
So if you are on Facebook, please add the Chase app so you can vote for them, share the link on your profile and rally your friends any way you can so they will vote too! (I know, I don't like adding apps either, but after voting I just went to Account, Application settings (top right of your FB page) and clicked on the "X" beside the Chase app to remove it - EASY PEASY!)
Why did I vote for Best for Babes? Well aside from the aforementioned love affair, they got my vote (and should get yours too) because they:
inspire, prepare & empower moms - to give breastfeeding a makeover and give moms the solutions they need to make it work!
believe ALL moms deserve to make an informed feeding decision, & to be cheered on, coached and celebrated without pressure, judgment or guilt, whether they breastfeed for 2 days, 2 months 2 years, or not at all.
put pressure on the booby traps, not moms, so that they can achieve their personal breastfeeding goals!
are raising awareness of the WHO Code and how violations hurt both breastfeeding and formula-feeding moms
attract moms on the fence about breastfeeding with positive images (see above), information and resources
boost & complement the efforts of the entire breastfeeding movement, including the United States Breastfeeding Committee, the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, Baby-Friendly Hospitals, and many more
are funded entirely by WHO Code compliant sponsors with all individual donations going directly towards education & outreach
are building the “mother of all causes” through grassroots and social media such as Facebook and Twitter to restore breastfeeding to its rightful place among highly visible disease foundations like Komen, American Heart Association and the Juvenile Diabetes foundation because breastfeeding lowers the risk of all these diseases and many more, plus it reduces the burden on the environment!
are the only non-profit that is running a modern and innovative ad campaign that has the potential to reach millions of moms. With the CHASE community giving grant, they can leverage donated media space and run the campaign on billboards across the country for a fraction of the regular cost AND get more celebrity interviews that will put this issue on the map of the media and the mainstream in a positive and game-changing way.
Are you unable to double pump because your breasts are too large? Do you have to hold your breast "up" with one hand while holding the pump flange on with the other? If so, keep reading...
I love talking to people - consumers, competitors, retailers, colleagues. I am a Gemini and thus very curious about pretty much everything (except politics lol - can't stand politics!) I ask LOTS of questions. I am very social. But I think the reason I love talking to people so much is because I ALWAYS learn something!
I am normally a C cup and was a D when I was pregnant/nursing, so I had NO IDEA what large-breasted women go through, especially after their milk comes in and they grow yet another cup size or two. Can we say F, G or H cup ladies?
A while back, I was speaking to a woman at a tradeshow who told me she was unable to double pump because of her very large breasts. This is how it went down at her house: Grab hold of a breast with one hand and raise it so that the nipple was no longer facing the floor. Then with the other hand, hold the pump flange on the breast. No double pumping for her (unless she grew a third and fourth hand that is)!
And then she shared with me how PumpEase enabled her to double pump! She wasn't totally hands-free, but she was able to double pump. Needless to say she was ecstatic to cut her pumping time in half as well as to increase her supply by pumping both breasts at the same time. As you may or may not know, pumping both breasts simultaneously results in higher prolactin levels in the blood and thus produces more milk.
She was also able to pump on one side and nurse on the other with the PumpEase - another way to stimulate both breasts and get more milk! Nursing on one side and pumping on the other will also generally result in pumping more milk as your baby triggers you milk ejection reflex (letdown) better than a pump will.
Oh and sorry about the almost picture-less post. I couldn't find any images on the internet that were "suitable" when I Googled "pumping with larger breasts" or any combination of those words IF you know what I mean. ;-) We did include a picture of our favourite brand of breast pump though - Hygeia!
If you're fairly well-endowed and used a breast pump, please tell us about your experience below. We'd love to hear all about it!
Hi everyone! Please check-out our latest video entitled, "How to Use a PumpEase hands-free pumping bra". Any idea what it's about? OK, just kidding...
I worked with the wonderful Cathrin Witt on this project. I was responsible for taping it and tried my best to follow Cathrin's guidelines for shot angles and such, however I'm no professional in this arena so you can blame the "not so great" lighting on me. Cathrin was in charge of editing - adding music, stills and titles - and making it look all pretty and professional!
The cool thing is, Cathrin (or Cathy as I knew her as in high school) and I reconnected on Facebook a couple of years ago, yet did not meet face-to-face or even speak over the phone to get this video produced. She lives in Bellevue, WA - about two hours south of me AND in a different country!
So just think... if the next time that Cathrin and I venture down the video production road, we actually work together in-person, we could potentially have Oscar material on our hands! Should we clear off our mantles Cathrin?
Anywho, take a gander at the video and let us know what you think. You like? No like? Tell us all about it below!
